Career
Dr. Pedro Roldán graduated in Medicine from the Universidad de Valencia in 2008. He completed his specialist training in Neurosurgery at the Department of Neurosurgery of Hospital Universitario Son Espases, Palma de Mallorca, and obtained his specialist qualification in Neurosurgery in 2013 following the MIR training programme.
He subsequently worked at the Functional Neurosurgery Unit at Queen Square Hospital in London, one of the world's leading centres for functional surgery, where he deepened his expertise in deep brain stimulation and movement disorders.
He holds a PhD in Surgery, with a doctoral thesis on intraoperative MRI-assisted brain tumour surgery, a field combining surgical precision with cutting-edge technology.
Academic and hospital positions
Dr. Roldán is an Associate University Professor of Neurosurgery in the Medical Degree programme at the University of Barcelona, and a member of numerous scientific societies, including the Sociedad Española de Neurocirugía, the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS), the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) and the World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (WSSFN).
He currently carries out the majority of his clinical work as Senior Specialist in the Neurosurgery Department of Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, where he also serves as Resident Supervisor and is an active member of the Teaching Committee of Hospital Clínic de Barcelona.
Clinical activity
The greater part of his clinical work is devoted to Functional Neurosurgery: surgery for Parkinson's disease, tremor and epilepsy, facial pain conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia and other headaches resistant to medical treatment, neuro-oncology and spinal surgery, refining minimally invasive techniques such as endoscopic spine surgery and other advanced percutaneous approaches · the fields in which he is currently developing most of his work.
Research and publications
He has focused most of his research on Functional Neurosurgery and on the development of new surgical approaches. He has numerous publications on functional and epilepsy surgery, neurostimulation and intraoperative image-guided surgery in high-impact journals such as Nature Communications, Movement Disorders and Epilepsia.
