Career

Dr. Arturo Renú Jornet has been a Senior Specialist in Neurology at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona since 2017, where he completed his MIR Neurology residency (2010-2014). He holds a PhD in Medicine from the Universitat de Barcelona with the grade of summa cum laude and an extraordinary award, with a thesis on blood-brain barrier injury in acute ischaemic stroke: neuroimaging markers and prognostic significance, supervised by Professors Ángel Chamorro and Sergio Amaro.

He is an Associate Professor at the Universitat de Barcelona, teaching on the Medical Degree programme and on Master's courses in Neurosciences and critical care.

Clinical activity

His clinical activity focuses on acute ischaemic stroke, reperfusion therapies (intravenous thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy), advanced imaging in cerebrovascular pathology and neurocritical patient management. He collaborates with the BRAIN & SPINE Barcelona team in general neurology, with particular interest in headache (migraine, cluster headache) and botulinum toxin treatment, as well as cerebrovascular pathology.

Research

He is principal investigator of the FIS PI20/00901 project on glycaemic status assessed with continuous monitoring in acute ischaemic stroke treated with cerebral reperfusion therapies, and a researcher in competitive projects including the CHOICE-2 trial (chemical optimisation of cerebral embolectomy, 1.1 M€) and studies on arterial wall injury, cerebral arteriovenous malformations and stroke biomarkers.

He is a member of the RICORS-ICTUS (Health Outcomes-Oriented Cooperative Research Networks) network of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III.

Publications

With an H-index of 27 (Google Scholar), he has published in high-impact journals on neurovascular pathology and stroke, including work on mechanical thrombectomy, prediction of haemorrhagic transformation and advanced stroke imaging.
